Oakhill School High School is located in Knysna. Oakhill School is a co-educational day school, situated in the beautiful town of Knysna on the Garden Route in the Western Cape. The School has an outstanding academic record, with a 100% pass rate in the IEB examination since its inception. Oakhill also has a fine reputation in sports, music, art and drama.
Oakhill is a whole school: Little Oaks is our Pre-prep School Grades 000 to R (3/4 year olds; Oakhill Prep School Grades 1 to 7; Oakhill College Grades 8 to 12 (Matric) all on the same campus! We have a sports campus close to the school where we offer rugby, soccer, cricket, Astroturf hockey, netball and water polo. We also offer a range of other adventure sports within the area.
Oakhill is an exciting, vibrant, energetic space and the status quo is challenged here at every turn. Thinking independently, a love of learning and the joy of life are celebrated regularly and this website is a testament to the joy experienced here on a daily basis.
Oakhill School grew from an idea sown in the early 1990s by pioneering parents who wanted an excellent all-round education for their children. They sought to establish a school which expressed joy in learning. Today Oakhill has over 500 pupils from Grade 000 to Grade 12 and is growing steadily in reputation and numbers, attracting children from local areas and from further afield.
The school is managed by a team comprising the Principal, and a management executive of teachers and administrators.
Oakhill is extremely proud of the excellent academic results our students have achieved, year after year, thanks to exceptional teachers who leave no stone unturned in the guidance and support of their students.
Since its inception, Oakhill Matrics have achieved a 100% pass rate, with wonderful results both individually and collectively. We are especially proud of our 2020 Grade 12s, who, despite the challenges experienced due to Covid, earned 111 distinctions collectively, averaging out at 2,58 distinctions per student, with 21 distinctions above 90%. 42 out of our 43 Matrics also earned a Bachelors Degree pass, and two-thirds of the class earned an aggregate above 70%.
However, academic results are not all our students achieve through the College years they learn how to master many skills, including the ability to think and work independently, critically and creatively, to access knowledge and reach understanding and to communicate clearly Teachers and students become partners in a dynamic learning process, serving as a final springboard to adulthood.
Grades 8 9
The curriculum in this phase covers an extensive range of learning areas: English, Afrikaans, Mathematics / Mathematical Literacy, Natural Science, Social Science, Economic Management Science, Arts and Culture, Information Technology and Life Orientation. At the end of this phase, students are well equipped to make educated choices regarding their seven Matriculation subjects.
Teachers in this phase act primarily as facilitators. They encourage students to be self-motivated and to take responsibility for their own learning through projects and self-study assignments. Test timetables and project deadlines issued at the beginning of each term promote efficient organisational and time management skills.
Rather than supply ready-made solutions, the teachers assist the students in developing their ability to initiate concepts, investigate resources, access and distil pertinent information and draw their own conclusions. These are the first steps towards independent, critical thinking and decision-making.
A Life Orientation programme helps our teenagers to understand the trials, tribulations and triumphs of adolescence, with a full-time counsellor always available for advice and support.

By Grade 10 students make their subject choices for Matric. Experienced teachers guide students towards making the best possible subject choices according to ability, interest and ambition.
