Greenwood Bay College High School is located in Plettenberg Bay. We are a co-ed, secular school, with a modern, forward-looking approach to education, yet we believe in manners, integrity, trust and self-discipline.
Our school is part of ADvTECH, which is home to multiple, distinct education brands.
This provides security for Plett residents and those relocating for lifestyle purposes, knowing that there is a stable education provider with a bright and secure future.
But still we will preserve the basic nature of the schools, setting our class numbers lower than most schools, and ensuring a safe, respectful, happy environment; in which our students are able to become creative, critical and independent thinkers.
Our campus on the banks of the Piesang River, lies a few kilometres upstream from the landmark Beacon Isle Hotel in Plettenberg Bay. The sounds of laughter, music and sport fill the air.
Between classes, High School students sit and work, play chess on our giant outdoors board, practise music and sport, or just unwind. Afternoons are a hive of activity, with soccer, hockey, netball, tennis or cricket taking place, depending on the term. Swimming, mountain biking and kayaking are also popular.
The School runs from a toddler class, through Grades 000 12, and writes the Cambridge International Examinations. These equip students to enrol at universities overseas if they so wish (and, of course, at South African ones).
We are strong academically, and pride ourselves on achieving some of the best Cambridge results in the country. We attribute this to excellent teaching and small classes.
We are also a balanced school, and believe in a well-rounded education.
We have 2 classes per grade which started in 2017 Grade 8, with a maximum of 24 students per class. Students write IGCSE exams at the end of Grade 10 and AS (Advanced Subsidiary) at the end of Grade 12. The curriculum is designed by Cambridge University in England and the exams are set and marked there.
The system has been successfully taught all around the world and is internationally recognized. South African universities see it as a more rigorous set of exams than the National Senior Certificate and award higher points for equivalent passes in the Cambridge system.
Required textbooks are sourced by the school and issued to students at cost. External examination fees vary from subject to subject.
