Owl Day Care for Special Needs Kids Pre-School is located in Bedfordview. OWL Day Care (Occupational, Wellness and Learning) is a privately owned day care for special needs children. OWL is managed and run by Monika and Barbara Wassermeier, sisters who gave up their corporate careers to pursue their passion and dream, helping special needs children and their parents. Monika and Barbara realised the importance and the need in helping the community with a service that is often hard to come by.
Our childrens ages that we care for range form 4 to 14 years but we realise that each child is unique in their own way, so we evaluate each child according to their disability to ensure we can assist and take care of them in a way that best suits them.
The children we care for are unique in their own special way and disability. These children are often not accepted in public or mainstream schools and we create a special place for them where they will feel right at home.
We keep our classes to a maximum of 8 depending on their needs. Each class has their own teacher and facilitators. Children with their own caregivers/facilitators are welcome at our school. As each child is unique, an individual development program is set up for each child to monitor and achieve their goals. Progress is monitored and reported and discussed with the parent or parents
Our Day Care caters for children with unique disabilities. We focus on sensory and interactive programmes, accepting kids from 4 years to 14. We offer Occupational, Physio and Speech Therapy on site.
OWL Caring for Children provides equipment and treatment for children with disabilities. We currently services children with a wide range of impairments, activity limitations, and participation restrictions caused by disability. These disabilities include; cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome, Rhett Syndrome, muscular dystrophy, genetic conditions (such as chromosome deletion), spina bifida, hydrocephalus and intellectual impairment.
Due to the fact that people with disabilities face barriers in accessing the health and rehabilitation services they need, OWL Caring for Children aims to support a community of disabled children who come from previously disadvantaged backgrounds and assist in alleviating the financial strain placed on the families due to their complex needs.
Assistive devices and technologies maintain or improve an individuals functioning and independence to facilitate participation and can also help prevent impairments and secondary health conditions. Assistive technology is crucial in helping a child succeed and transition to an independent adulthood. OWL Caring for Children aims to provide the following assistive and adapted equipment for children with disabilities. This includes
The children with disabilities needs for assistive devices are assessed by a team of physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists. OWL Caring for Children aims to assist families in paying for these therapies in order for their needs to be assessed and to allow for training the child in how to use the equipment appropriately. Furthermore, these therapies assist in developing skills for participation in activities of daily living.
OWL Caring for children would also like to pay it forward to other NGOs as well, like Malamalama Onwards, The Sunshine Centre, Charlotte Maxeke School and the Braamfontein branch and many more.
We have realised how great the needs are and therefor want to Start the NPC so we could reach more children and families. We at OWL Caring for Children are passionate in helping special needs children and their families.
