Bridge House Pre-School is located Bridge House is a sustainable South African learning community. In a changing world, we deliver a globally relevant education which realises each individuals potential to lead, innovate and serve with confidence.
The School, situated in the magnificent Cape Winelands close to Franschhoek, Stellenbosch and Paarl is a well-established, independent day and boarding school for eight hundred and eighty girls and boys from Playschool to Grade 12. Committed to nurturing a can do attitude, Bridge House excels in recognising the spirit of individualism within a framework of integrity, humility, wisdom and inspiration.
Many things about Bridge House, (like excellent teachers and facilities) can be found in numerous good schools. However, our combination of an amazing setting in the most beautiful Cape valley; the fact that were young (25 in 2020) and engaged in the invigorating challenge of writing our own, extraordinary history; Round Square membership; international exchanges; a strong Presidents Award programme; being co-educational from Playschool to Grade 12; boarding, and warm relationships, makes us unique. Add our emphasis on future-thinking and relevance (as opposed to adherence to past practices) and you have a distinctive, vibrant school that is proudly different.
Our Playschool classes for children 2-3 and 3-4 year olds, are housed in the spacious, Pre-Primary building. The classrooms are bright, light and very well equipped with wide verandahs and a huge, fenced grassed play area with lots of wonderful outdoor equipment.
The Playschool follows a structured curriculum, which is in accordance to best practice for Early Childhood Development and emphasis is on Learning through play. A holistic, thematic approach to learning is followed with structured activities to promote language and cognitive development, social interaction, gross and fine motor skills and creative art, including art, music, dance and fantasy play.
We have a favourable adult/child ratio with a teacher and assistant per group.
The Pre Primary classes are housed in a custom built, spacious, light and bright facility with large verandahs. The very large outside play area with a huge variety of outdoor equipment allows for wonderful freedom and opportunities for play.
The Pre Primary department at Bridge House has classes for 2 6 year old children:
Grade 0 classes (5-6 year olds)
Grade 00 classes (4-5 year olds)
Grade 000 classes (3-4 year olds)
Playschool group (2-3 year olds)
The Grade 00 and Playschool groups have their own designated play area, subtly separated from the older children.
Classes are small with the teacher supported by full time teacher assistants as well as specialist teachers, ensuring a favourable adult/child ratio. The warm, nurturing environment allows children to develop at their own pace and emphasis is placed on developing self-esteem and a healthy self-image.
We follow a thematic approach and believe in a holistic, integrated approach to learning where through play, discovery and solving problems the children grow and develop. Being part of the greater school environment allows the pre-primary children the privilege of being exposed to the many extra activities and facilities which Bridge House has to offer. Pupils have specialist teachers for activities such as Music, Ball Skills (including KinderKinetics) and visiting the Learning Commons to listen to stories and use the library facilities.
Our childrens development is continuously evaluated and with a well-developed Educational Support Unit at the school, early intervention and support is available. Extensive reporting, both verbal and written, to parents takes place termly. Children are screened for learning readiness before they enter Grade 1.
The Pre-primary day starts at 08h00 and the educational programme ends at 13h00. Children waiting for aftercare, remain in their homerooms until 14h00.
