The people working in Grade R all have the necessary qualifications to teach pre-schoolers. Both the teachers are qualified in ECD and have a Diploma in Grade R teaching.

The Grade R section of JPS pre-schoolers receives education in all areas. Attention is given to the emotional, physical and intellectual side of each learner. Learners also get enough time for inside and outside play.

Learners are given the opportunity to listen to speakers and go on outings, if the weekly theme contributes to it.

There is a close liaison with the Department of Education at all times as JPS's Grade R division strongly believes that toddlers must, at Departmental standards, be at the right level to meet the demanding Grade 1 program. For that reason, JPS's Grade R division regularly attends all courses offered by the Department of Education. In this way, they stay abreast of the changes in the education field. They also receive regular visits from the Department.

What makes the Grade R division of JPS so special is the sponsorship of their toddlers. At JPS, we really try to instill confidence and a good self-image in the toddlers.

As they become acquainted with the school setting, school grounds and become acquainted with the teachers during the course of the year, the transition to more formal teaching, in Grade 1, is so much less traumatic and strange.

There is also continuous liaison between Grade R and Grade 1 teachers to smooth the transition. Work done in Grade 1 is already introduced to Grade R to toddlers so that they can be familiar with it. The same reading series used in the rest of the school in Afrikaans and English is treated with the children, to facilitate the learning of sounds for them.

This all contributes to making school for these little ones a pleasant and exciting experience !!!
