Lebone II College of the Royal Bafokeng Pre-School is located in Rustenburg. Lebone II is an African school with a royal heritage, grounded in Setswana culture and shaped by a consciousness of our African context. It is in this spirit that we celebrate difference, and are proud of a student and staff body that is truly diverse.
What makes us unique is our Royal Bafokeng heritage, our service to the community and our approach to education. Lebone II aims to provide the inspiration, education and opportunities that positively influence the Royal Bafokeng Nation and the world.
Our learning environment is dynamic, innovative and creative. We equip our students with the skills, tools and mindfulness necessary for them to complete their academic careers and make a positive contribution to their communities, South Africa and the rest of the world.
The Lower School (Grades R to 7) curriculum covers Mathematics, English, Setswana, Afrikaans, Science, Social Sciences, Music, Art, Drama and Physical Education, and includes organised and individual sport and cultural activities, and individual musical instrument lessons. Our teachers structure a dynamic learning environment that nurtures curiosity and develops enquiring minds and research skills among our students.
The Lebone II teaching and learning curriculum is a blend of CAPS and an International Incorporation approach to learning, and follows a constructivist approach. This means that during the process of learning, students acquire and apply critical thinking, research, self-management and communication skills.
In Grades 3 to 7 the units of enquiry traditionally known subjects are packaged into sections throughout the year. In addition to content, each unit focuses on skills such as language, reading and comprehension, allowing students to develop a host of skills during a unit. The units have clear concepts that students must explore, and the teacher ensures these are covered, while the student is given room to take the lead in parts of the lesson.
Grades 3 to 7 students are benchmarked on the International Benchmark Tests from Australia.
In Grades R to 2, students receive intentional teaching in English, Setswana, Mathematics, Afrikaans and Life Skills by using the enquiry approach, which incorporates organised learning activities and learning through play.
Lower School students dont write exams but are continually assessed throughout the year. Parents receive detailed reports four times a year, giving them an in-depth assessment of areas of strength and areas that the student struggles with. Children are measured against their own performance and development.
Once a year parents are invited to a student-led conference where the students talk about their own learning and demonstrate the skills and knowledge that they have acquired.
