ES Le Grange Special School Pre-School is located in Bailliepark. ES le Grange School in Potchefstroom is a school for physically- and mentally handicapped children, children who are unable to function in a mainstream school. Our goal with every learner is to help each child reach their maximum potential. We try to reach these goals by means of special educational methods and adaptations. We focus on the development of fine- and gross motor skills, language- and number skills, as well as personal care.

Learners are referred to us by the Department of Education, after detailed assessment and special permission.

ES was founded 42 years ago and has grown from a small 8-learner school into the dynamic, leading school which it is today. The school currently has 25 professional teachers who all strive to provide effective and excellent education to all learners. ES is a multi-cultural school with 278 learners, ranging from 3 to 21 years of age. Approximately 180 learners stay in the hostel, with the rest being day-scholars and children from the orphanage.

The perception that a lot of people have is that learners with special educational needs are kept busy at school. ES, however, is a state supported school which more or less functions like a mainstream school with regards to school periods, discipline, school uniform, school leaders, sport, cultural activities and state support. The difference, however, lies in the educational programmes and methods being followed. We use the same curriculum as mainstream schools, but with some adaptations. In the end we want to develop each child in totality.
