Laerskool Laeveld Primary School is located in Nelspruit. The school opened on 5 January 1982 with Mr. GF Botes, a retired principal as first acting principal. Students from Nelspruit Primary and Bergland Primary are enrolled. Only the Junior Division is started because all the classrooms have not yet been completed.
The first 9 staff members are seconded here from Nelspruit Primary and Bergland Primary. At the beginning of the second term, the first gr. 4 to 7 pupils are admitted and a further nine staff members from the above schools are seconded here. The official name, Laeveld Primary School and motto: Know Him and Live is approved in 1983.
Mr. DA Barnard assumes service as first permanent principal from the third term in 1982. Because all funds for the grounds and sports grounds are frozen by the TOD (Education Department), the then school committee decided to continue the site development itself. In November 1982, the first excavations were made for the construction of a rugby field and athletics track. The entire sports complex was funded by funds raised from parents.
We currently have two rugby fields, a junior rugby field, an athletic track, a turf cricket pitch with 3 cricket nets, a cement pavilion with 30 meters under roof, four netball / tennis courts combined, floodlights and a large reception room with a thatched roof. The current head is Mr. TE Krüger and the school's number of pupils has grown from 553 pupils in 1982 to over 1,000 pupils at present.
