Woodlands School Pre-School is located in Sabie. Woodlands School was begun in 1997 by a group of local parents who saw the need for a small private, English school in Sabie. Since then, Woodlands has become a household name in Sabie.
Woodlands School aims to provide quality education in a co-educational environment; offering a holistic, well-balanced, creative approach, preparing each individual learner for the challenges of life.
Tuition is offered from Toddlers up to and including Grade 7 in class sizes that will not exceed 20 learners.
The school curriculum is based on the National policy pertaining to the programme and promotion requirements of the National Curriculum Statement Grades R 12. The Curriculum Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) as set out in the national policy: Foundation Phase (Grades R 3) as from 2012; Intermediate Phase (Grades 4 6) as from 2013 and Grade 7 (Senior Phase) in 2014.
At Woodlands our learners all find a place they look forward coming to. We begin instilling this love for learning in our pre-school. This is a time for learning through learning and experience. Learners begin in our Phase 1 Sprouts class (from 6 months) and they spend three fun-filled years learning to reason, think and create as they move through the Seedlings and Saplings classes. When they are age appropriate, they will go to the grade 00 class and then to our grade R class.
Our pre-school programme is embedded in CAPS, ensuring the idea of integrated learning.
The various learning areas are therefore not presented as separate entities and thus literacy, numeracy and life skills are experienced as a holistic unit. Our daily programme consists of auditory or visual perception, gross and fine motor skills, creative activities, theme work, literacy and ample opportunity to play outside as well as play-ball once a week at an minimal extra cost.
Woodlands School offers a balanced curriculum from Grades 000 to 7 in an environment in which each learner will develop an enquiring mind. We recognize each learners uniqueness and individual developmental needs and we have small classes of not more than 18 learners.
Our teaching is based on the principles of the CAPS National Curriculum Statement. Tuition is offered in English. Our curriculum includes all the basic subjects in accordance with the National Core Curriculum of the Department of Education. The syllabus has been adapted to suit our needs and to extend the learners more in preparation for the academic standards expected of them in secondary school. The learners are assessed on a continuous basis both formally and informally and reports are issued 4 times a year. We have regular parent meetings where the progress of learners is discussed. Each learner is looked at individually with his or her best interest at heart.
Our school has a multimedia centre and library where learners learn to do research for projects and where a love for books and reading is fostered. Learners are also taught computer skills during multi-media lessons.
Reports from Uplands and Penryn for previous Woodlands learners testify of an excellent foundation which has been laid at Woodlands. Many of our previous learners have also achieved excellent results from some of the top universities in South Africa.
