Uplands Preparatory School Pre-School is located in Whiteriver. Uplands is a different school in many ways and we are very proud of that. We are a co-educational family school that takes great care in creating a friendly, community driven environment, where all our children are known and given their space to grow. In many ways we offer a fresh, welcoming approach. This is a culture of education that has defined who we are since our beginnings in 1928.
Uplands is a school steeped in history and is thriving today, with over 140 girls and boys in our Pre-Preparatory School, 360 in our Preparatory School and 500 pupils in our College, all located on the same, beautiful 110 hectare site. We believe in a well-grounded, ambitious education which seeks to pass on to all of the pupils the four age-old pillars of our community: integrity, respect, relationships and faith. To achieve this, we provide a vast array of activities so that all can find a lifelong passion.
We enable our children to look beyond what they feel is possible, both academically and outside the classroom; we encourage an atmosphere of friendship, collegiality and mutual respect, whilst also retaining the love of competitiveness. We require all our pupils to engage with the wider world, in preparation for their adult lives. All of these aspects help every boy and girl to gain a genuine sense of self belief that will provide the strongest possible foundation for a happy and successful future.
At our Pre-Preparatory, we provide a relevant and high-quality early childhood education in a happy, safe and beautiful environment. In order to ensure that learning is fun, our age appropriate programmes alternate between guided learning experiences and free play.
Our approach to teaching is theme based, and follows ISASAs Early Childhood Development (ECD) syllabus. In this programme, our children are exposed to the following areas of learning:
PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT
Through regular activity, games and play, we ensure our children develop strong, coordinated and spatially-aware bodies.
SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT
We use class discussions and interactive, group-based tasks to encourage our children to share resources, ideas and thoughts. These lessons also build an awareness for others, and are the foundation for ensuring our children live with kindness and respect.
COMMUNICATION AND LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT
By using storytelling, we ensure that our children become confident speakers and adept listeners.
MATHEMATICAL LITERACY
In using experiential patterns, shapes and foundational mathematical ideas, we build a confidence to work with and see numbers.
CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT
Through activity in music, movement, drama and visual arts, our children are encouraged to experiment with their creativity, imagination and originality.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
We actively encourage an awareness for our immediate community and for the wider world beyond. Through a variety of activities that explore our environment, our children are helped to achieve a sense of beauty and wonder for the world about them.
