PEPPS Polokwane College High School is located in Polokwane. PEPPS Polokwane offers classes from Grade R to 12 with class sizes not exceeding 30 pupils. Education takes place in a Christian ethos environment.
Our language of instruction is English and we are committed to developing the creative and cognitive abilities of our pupils. Independent thinking skills are prioritised and each pupil is encouraged to develop holistically. Involvement in the extra-curricular programme is expected and each child is given opportunities to contribute to a number of social responsibility initiatives.
We maintain high academic standards and excellence pervasive in the work that is done. Project-based Learning (PBL) is one of the ways in which we prepare pupils for the 4th Industrial Revolution. This methodology has been shown to improve learning retention and interest. Computers are integrated into the learning at all levels of the school. We also offer lessons in philosophy and ethics as well as social and emotional skills.
Leadership is explicitly addressed through our curriculum since our motto is Creating Tomorrows Leaders. All pupils are guided towards being the best version of themselves. Pupils and teachers work positively together in order to enhance the educational experience. Discipline with dignity is a philosophy that speaks to constructive relationships within the school environment.
The campus has over a 100 indigenous trees and plants which provide a serene and calming learning environment for our pupils. We are an Eco-school and encourage our community to care for the environment through various initiatives, including recycling.
PEPPS ensures an educational journey that is unique for each child. The aim is to create conscious individuals who are able to interact and function within multicultural and diverse environments with ease.
Grade 8 and 9
High school pupils are encouraged in independent work ethic and independent thought. All pupils are expected to bring their own laptop (any brand) to school daily as we integrate technological proficiency into the entire curriculum. Pupils choose from a wide variety (14-20) of projects every 20 days which they engage in during their Creating Tomorrow lessons. Creating Tomorrow is our Project-based Learning (PBL) curriculum. This methodology is widely regarded in educational circles as the best way of preparing children for the 4th Industrial Revolution. The Independent Examinations Board (IEB) has explicitly supported and favoured this method of learning in the future. It has been shown that pupils are more engaged in learning if they have had a choice in what they are learning and are interested in what they are learning.
In order to assist pupils in using their laptops effectively, we do offer typing lessons in these grades.
In Grade 9, each matric subject is offered as a short module course in order to expose the pupils to what they can expect in their last three years of school. These modules also lay the essential foundations required for each of these subjects.
English is the language of instruction and we offer a choice between Sepedi and Afrikaans as an additional language. Beyond the Curriculum (BTC) is a weekly lesson which explicitly addresses philosophy, ethical thinking, social and emotional intelligence and leadership. An hour is set aside each week for pupils to go to a spiritual activity. Formal reading lessons are also part of the Grade 8-9 curriculum.
International Benchmark Tests (IBTs), which are administered by the Independent Examinations Board (IEB), are completed in the latter half of Grade 9. These are external tests which ensure that we remain competitive in the level of proficiency that our pupils attain.
Extra-curricular activities are offered after school and all pupils are expected to involve themselves in at least one extra-curricular activity per term. PEPPS strongly believes in the holistic development of each child and this includes physical and cultural activities.
Any pupil who is struggling academically will be expected to attend afternoon classes to assist him/her in improving his/her skills. We have especially high expectations in Mathematics, where the pass mark is 45% in Grade 8 and 50% in Grade 9.
The school organises for every Grade 9 pupil to write psychometric tests which assist them in making an informed subject choice.
Grade 10-12 (FET)
We pride ourselves on consistent excellent matric results in the IEB examination. We are committed to ensuring that as many pupils as possible achieve a bachelor degree (BD) pass. This empowers our pupils to go on to study at tertiary institutions of their choice. Appropriate subject choices enable pupils to achieve the highest results possible.
This final phase of our school is presented with a high expectation of academic rigour. Our well-qualified teachers insist on commitment to studies and devotion to excellence.
English is the language of instruction and offered as the home language subject to all pupils. There is a choice between Sepedi and Afrikaans as a first additional language; each pupil is expected to do Life Orientation. Pupils may also choose from Accounting, Business Studies, Computer Application Technology, Engineering Graphics and Design, Geography, History, Information Technology, Life Sciences, Mathematics, Mathematical Literacy and Physical Sciences.
An hour is set aside each week for pupils to go to a spiritual activity. Pupils are expected to remain committed to the extra-curricular programme through Grade 10-12. Grade 12s are excused from afternoon activities just before their mid-year examinations.
Extra lessons are offered for all subjects on campus through Grade 10-12. Grade 12s are expected to stay late on Fridays for additional academic contact time.
