St Raphaels Special School Primary School is located in Woodlands. Our aim at St Raphael’s is to create an environment that promotes a culture of learning, teaching and overall development despite the challenges. We also hope to ensure that our learners are competent in this age of technology which prepares them well for employment and further academic development.

St. Raphael’s School opened on 9 April 1984 to meet the growing need of children with physical disabilities in the Wentworth area. Mr Williams initiated this process with the then Cripple Care Association as they were not catered for in the mainstream schools. The school was accommodated in Tifflin Road at the Associations premises.

Since its inception, St Raphael’s has grown phenomenally into a multi-cultural school that caters for learners with various disabilities, such as learning disabilities, physical disabilities, medical conditions and autism. It is a no fees school located in Woodlands, South of Durban. Learners are accepted from all areas in the Durban region. We are a primary school catering for Grade R to Grade 7.

St Raphael’s School has developed a High Care Unit to accommodate learners on the Autistic Spectrum. This is a highly specialised programme which caters for the learners who cannot ordinarily fit into mainstream education. St Raphael’s prides itself on their motto “I know I can.” We have a committed and dedicated staff of Educators, Therapists, Nursing Sister and Support staff who endeavour to deliver quality education and support for each of our learners.
