School is about making memories. We have 16 years from Toddler to Grade 12 to offer our learners the best possible education, but more than that we have 16 years to generate memories that learning is fun, and that school is a good place to be. At the heart of our day to day lives at school are our values Respect, Excellence, Innovation, Godliness and Integrity. In a relationship-based school every child is UNIQUE. However, their individuality remains a priority. Relationships make us feel safe. Every structure in our school is there to make our learners feel part of the Redwood family. As we embark on this exciting journey together I encourage everybody associated with Redwood College La Lucia to Stand Tall and to Be a light for all to see Matthew 5:16 The Redwood name is taken from the mighty Redwood forests that stand tall and weather the test of time. However, the brand borrows more from the Redwood forests than just a name. The living mechanism and ecosystem of the Redwood forests provides living insights and principles that are adopted into the Redwood brand. The unique root system whereby the surprisingly shallow roots of individual trees extend radially and intertwine with each other creates a sophisticated anchor that facilitates the entire forests growth, even in harsh environmental conditions. The bark of a Redwood Tree is thick, fibrous and spongy. It retains moisture which protects the tree from external threats such as fire and insect infestation. A Redwood forest is a vibrant ecosystem providing home, shelter and protection to a plethora of plant and animal life. The forests are a key component of a greater system whereby they serve to clean the atmosphere through the capture of carbon dioxide and the release of oxygen.
Redwood Pre-Primary, set in the heart of La Lucia. It is a Christian pre-primary school where education is based on the Bible and dedicated to seeing each student discover their God given destiny. The school is filled, daily, with joy, creativity and acceptance for each unique individual child. It is a privilege to observe how, in this atmosphere, children thrive and develop, each one becoming increasingly spontaneous and confident in who they have been created to be. We are blessed to have an amazing team of teachers and assistants who tirelessly love and nurture each child daily, through every aspect of their development, and love every moment of what they do. Redwood Pre-Primary is truly home-from-home for each one, staff and learners alike. A Christian value system based on the character traits observed in the life of the Lord Jesus Christ is at the core of the schools philosophy, using the Accelerated Christian Education Programme (A.C.E) for our Grade Rs. The Toddlers (18 months 3 years), the Grade 000 (3-4 years) and the Grade 00 (4-5 years) groups programmes run according to weekly themes, also based on the character traits of Jesus. Redwood Pre-Primary Developing Your Child for Future Learning. The desire of Redwood Pre-Primary is to develop the whole child as it is believed that every area of the child, be it physical, social, emotional, intellectual or spiritual, are equally important. There is, therefore, a continual striving to provide opportunities to enhance all these areas on a daily basis. A students day at Redwood Pre-Primary is a busy one. Activities on offer ensure learners get the opportunity to develop many different skills, the most important of these being creative thinking and problem solving. Emotional and language skills are continuously being stimulated as children make choices, discuss, plan and experience success and achievement whilst being actively involved in a variety of challenges and opportunities placed before them daily. The Grade R programme is an excellent and unique one, based on the phonetic reading system enabling every child to have an excellent preparedness for learning to read in Grade 1. This, however, is a challenging programme and it is recommended that children do not advance to Grade R before they turn 6 years of age in that year. At this pre-primary it is believed whole-heartedly to Train up a child in the way he should go (Proverbs 22:6). This is an awesome task and one Redwood Pre-Primary does with absolute pleasure and joy.
