Queensburgh Girls High School is located in Malvern. Malvern Primary School has existed for over 90 Years. In 1948, the school grew and Malvern Secondary was created. In 1954/5, following Malvern becoming a borough of Queensburgh, Malvern Secondary was renamed and Queensburgh High School was born. During 1968/9, the split between the boys and girls resulted in two separate schools. Since then, Queensburgh Girls' High School has evolved into a multiracial, girls' only institution with a strong belief in empowering, nurturing and developing future female leaders.
Young people are aggravated by a number of forces: fragmentation of the family, decline of trust in public institutions, increasing public concern about questionable ethical practices in business and industry, the impact of the mass media, and our gradually increasing affluence. All of these forces help foster a materialistic, "me first" attitude.
In preparing our girls for a global community, Queensburgh Girls' High focuses on more than just academics and sport. We also have a keen sense of the importance of a values-based education. In a world that often worships at the altar of materialism and success, we place equal importance on the moral and ethical growth of our young women.
The survival of society depends as much on its moral and ethical principles, as it does on all other forms of success. So, at QGHS, girls are nurtured to inculcate values like respect and self-respect, good manners, a sense of community at school and the community at large, and a responsibility to our country and to the earth. Great stress is also placed on developing the moral and ethical principles that must guide everyday actions so that our girls can become more than great successes at careers. Their fine-tuned moral and ethical principles must also ensure that they become good mothers, be able to demonstrate integrity in the workplace and demonstrate responsibility as citizens.
It is our mission to send out girls fully equipped with an all-rounded education.
Queensburgh Girls' High prides itself on an excellent academic record.
QGHS offers a wide range of subjects catering for the needs and aspirations of all our learners. More recently we have introduced Engineering Graphics and Design thereby extending the repertoire of careers that our girls can enter, e.g. Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Graphics and Design, Property Development, etc. This enables our young women to compete equally in previously male-dominated fields.
In addition to our excellent academic programme, there are several academically related clubs and societies, e.g. Public Speaking, The History Society , The Geography Club, the Science Club, The JSE, etc. These clubs provide opportunities for further interrogation into curriculum related matters.
At Queensburgh Girls' we are proud to set the bar high!
