Mcauley House School is located in Parktown. McAuley House is a Catholic independent day school which offers co-ed grade R - 7 and girls only Grade 8 to 12. Catherine McAuley was the founder of the Sisters of Mercy. A homeless shelter was started for women and children on the 'Feast of Our Lady Mercy' on the 24th of September 1824 in Dublin, Ireland. The Sisters of Mercy dedicated themselves to serve the poor and become known around the world.
In 1898 the Sisters of Mercy came to South Africa. In 1907 the Sisters of Mercy began teaching in Braamfontein. They were first called the Convent of Mercy, then Parktown West Convent, then McAuley House. In 1962 plans for McAuley House opened with bigger and better facilities at its present site.
The Sisters of Mercy have 16 schools, adult education and homeless centres run by the Mercy Sisters in South Africa. The official opening of the McAuley House school was in October 1964.
