Veritas College Pre-School is located in Springs. Veritas College is a Catholic school grounded in the Educational vision of the Dominican Order and the Christian Brothers. Our ethos is Catholic, which encompasses the following beliefs:
We believe that every person, being created by God, is essentially good. Our challenge is to create the broad educational framework and opportunities in order to enable each learner to aspire to that goodness.
We believe that God is revealed in all things through:
We believe that we are indeed our brothers keeper so that together we can form a caring school community. We believe that as educators we have a serious responsibility to teach our subject matter passionately, and to inspire learners to love knowledge and discover their individual talents so that they can set and realize their academic goals.
We believe that we have an obligation to teach for life: each learner should leave Veritas with a clear sense of the ethical and moral challenges of life. Hopefully we do challenge learners to be counter-cultural so that they do not become blind followers, but are able to reason independently about how they will choose to live. If we fail to uncover the spiritual and to encourage learners to be members of faith communities then our own existence is challenged. As a Catholic School we must have respect for all believers regardless of their particular spiritual journey.
Our Pre-Preparatory is open to children from 2 to 6 years. We offer an exceptional and exciting formative education. Each child is special and is treated as a unique individual.
We believe in a holistic approach ensuring all learners reach their full potential in a happy, relaxed, secure and Christian environment. In a world that grows more competitive and impersonal daily, we provide a caring atmosphere where children can be children; free to play, explore and be creative while experiencing fun and success in a non-competitive environment.
We follow the National Curriculum. The focus being on Life Skills, Literacy and Mathematics and integrating the other learning areas into these core areas. We make learning fun.
All the grades follow the same core theme and as the children progress through the grades this theme is extended and expanded on within our structured curriculum.
With small classes our experienced and caring teachers nurture each child, adhering to our Catholic Ethos, in order to assist them in working towards their full potential.
Our teachers are highly skilled, motivated and well informed keeping abreast of educational developments both here and abroad, placing strong emphases on perceptual and motor skills. These necessary skills are stimulated through the medium of play activities.
Specialist coaches come in throughout the week and run full movement and music programmes as part of the curriculum we offer.
We have well-equipped classrooms that reflect the latest educational trends. Our outside play area is safe and secure and provides equipment which helps the children develop whilst having fun.
The school has on-site Occupational and Speech Therapists and an Educational Psychologist, so any problems detected can be dealt promptly with in your childs formative years without them having to leave our premises.
As we are on the same premises as Veritas College Preparatory, we enjoy access to their extensive facilities. The Grade R children are able to visit the Computer Centre and use a computer each to play educational games and use perceptual programmes. The Pre-Preparatory children also have access to the Media Centre where children are encouraged to develop a love of books and reading at an early age.
In summer months we are able to use the Preparatory swimming pool and our children are taught water safety skills along with just cooling off and socialising on hot days.
Our open door policy means you are welcome to visit at any time. We provide regular feedback in the form of a report every term, have regular parent meetings and also send out newsletters to keep our parents informed of our activities.
The approach is not curriculum based, as we still follow the national guidelines to Early Childhood Development. It is more a mind-set, one of which allows the teachers to expand on and explore various pockets of information with the children. It is child-centred thus giving the children the opportunity to lead their own learning. It essentially helps us to be in touch with the childrens interests and from there we can formulate our lessons to incorporate the elements of the National Curriculum in an interesting and experiential manner.

The Grade 00 and Grade R children are able to visit the Computer Centre and receive lessons on how to use a computer as well as enhancing perceptual skills by having access to online educational games. By 2020, we will be including simple coding into our computer lessons so as to keep up to date with technological trends.
The Pre-Preparatory children also have access to the Media Centre where children are encouraged to develop a love of books and reading at an early age. We implements this by way of a book exchange programme. The teachers select age appropriate books for their children and send them home with guidelines to parents on how to approach reading the book to their children in order to enhance language development.
In the summer months we are able to use the Preparatory swimming pool where our children become water safe and learn the basics of swimming through our learn to swim program by a qualified swimming instructor.
In addition to this, all Pre-Prep children engage in a weekly yoga class furnishing our learners with a holistic gross motor program.

The development of a child can be divided into 5 main areas: Spiritual, Intellectual, Physical, Social and Emotional.
We strive to ensure all children reach their true potential in each of these areas in a happy, relaxed and secure environment.
We follow a thematic approach, each theme incorporates: language, mathematics, science and life skills.
