At Tyger Valley College Pre-Preparatory, we aim to teach not only academic skills but also vital life skills that will benefit children throughout their school career. As preschool children are still in the developmental phase of their learning we try to align our teaching for each child in order to guide them through learning processes and ignite a love of learning and exploration.

Loris Malaguzi once said “the wider the range of possibilities we offer children, the more intense will be their motivations and the richer their experiences.” By incorporating a variety of different teaching methods both in and out of the classroom, our children are able to learn through exploration, play and teacher directed activities.

Our staff comprises a group of fully qualified teachers who are all passionate about early childhood development and education. Our teachers use a combination of traditional teaching methods and also follow current trends which include problem solving activities and encourage innovative, creative thinking. We believe in teaching the whole child and focus on developing social, emotional, motor and academic skills, as well as developing children’s own talents and interests.

Our daily programme offers many opportunities for outdoor play and exploration, in a safe, supervised environment.
Following our Christian ethos, we promote values of love, kindness and giving in our children. We encourage the children in our care to be mindful of their peers and their environment.

Through careful guidance and encouragement we aim to build confident children who are socially and emotionally well-adjusted and have a love of learning. Ultimately, we want all the children in our care to flourish!

The Cottage – Grade 0000

An early childhood programme at The Cottage understands that children’s early learning experiences deeply affect their future physical, cognitive, emotional and social development.
We believe in optimising the early years of children’s lives through a play and inquiry based curriculum with a strong emphasis on global competencies. This is the best investment we can make as a society to ensure our children’s future success.
The Cottage caters for children aged 2 turning 3 years in the year of enrolment. Teaching takes place in small, focussed groups and places emphasis on settling children into a routine while introducing a rich and varied age-appropriate curriculum. Teachers are qualified and classroom assistants have a minimum requirement of a national senior certificate.

Grade 000 – Grade 0

At Tyger Valley College we strive to create a safe and stimulating environment for our children, an environment in which our children can learn and develop in totality. To this aim we focus on the intellectual, physical, emotional, social and spiritual growth of each pupil. Our overall aim is to empower each pupil to fulfil his or her true potential. We prepare the pupils for the Junior Preparatory Phase through a balanced daily programme. This is accomplished by focusing on a variety of aspects, some of which include:

• Themes that expand the pupils’ knowledge by means of relevant general information, stories, songs and special activities.
• Units of inquiry and inquiry based projects that promotes active learning and the need for children to play an important role in their learning.
• Integration of Global Competencies through various strategies such as Kagan Cooperative Learning, P4C and De Bono’s  Thinking Hats
• Stories and discussions (formal and informal) to promote vocabulary, general knowledge and correct language usage.
• Early mathematical concepts through the use of play and specific mathematical activities.
• Creative activities to promote fine motor skills, planning and perseverance, and to help promote correct handling of tools and various media.
• Extending gross motor skills through structured movement lessons as well as free play outside.
• A Musical programme including singing, instrumental play and movement to music to help develop a sense of rhythm and a love of music.
• Free play to promote and encourage social communication and interaction.
• Fantasy play and fantasy corners.
• Encouraging pupils to become independent and confident through various aspects of the daily programme.
• We endeavour to provide a loving, warm, safe environment where pupils feel at ease and happy. We equip pupils to become independent, confident individuals who accept challenges and produce high quality work. Here we begin to equip our pupils with the necessary skills and knowledge that will carry them through life.
