Maragon Private School Olympus Pre-School is located in Faerie Glen. We focus on a Christ Centred curriculum whereby we incorporate the development of core skills in each of our learners through a philosophy of learning through play. Our main goal is to set a strong Spiritual foundation whereby we teach the children to know God and love people so that they can impact the future.
We aim to prepare our learners for life in the 21st century by focussing on the development of basic core skills. We want to equip them to participate fully in todays and tomorrows world. We guide them in developing Thinking Skills, Communication Skills, Self-management Skills, Collaboration Skills and Problem Solving Skills.
This creates more engaged learning from all the learners which brings fun into the classroom as part of the learning process.
We introduce our 2 and 3 year olds to the world around them by providing them with optimal learning opportunities for self-discovery and exploring. At this stage, children are willing and excited to learn and explore their environments; therefore its important to inspire the children them with experiences, through play.
Grade 000
In Grade 000, ages 3 turning 4, the children are starting to take an active interest in their environment. They are learning to become more confident, independent and are able to express their needs and wants. Children of this age are introduced to group activities, learn through observation and then mimicking their peers. We also prepare them to work individually at their own pace while introducing them to more apparatus and equipment.
Grade 00
In Grade 00 children are still learning and developing through play. They start participating in more individual work as opposed to group activities in order to showcase their independence. They start developing an understanding of sounds and numbers and at this age children are introduced to the sound of a letter and the quantity of a number. Both are done on a very concrete basis preparing them for a more in-depth Grade 0 curriculum.
Grade 0
We believe that learning still happens through guided play and, therefore, Grade 0 learners are exploring with sounds and sandpaper letters rather than the actual alphabet. They are fully aware of the different sounds that go together to create their names and words from our object box. Numeracy is taught on a very concrete basis, through developing a deeper understanding of what a number is made up of, rather than rote counting and repetition.
With the help of our equipment, the learners build a fundamental understanding of what a number actually means. Exploring our environment and including nature in our learning, takes place on a daily basis both inside and outside of the classroom environment.
