Empower Christian Academy Pre-School is located in Akasia. The school was started due to a passionate heart who longed to see quality education provided for pupils in our surrounding area and beyond. At the heart of this vision is a desire to see the next generation achieving great heights of success through the means of excellent education and authentic Christian discipleship.
The School was opened on 18 January 2013. The school opened as a preschool, with 18 learners and two teachers.
In January 2014 we had 64 learners registered to start the new year, a growth of over 300% in one year.
Early in 2015 we registered with the Education Department, received our EMIS number and started our first two Grade 1 classes. By the Lords grace, every year since then we have been able to add two additional classes to the school, with 2019 seeing the addition of our first Grade 5 classes, Grade 6 classes launch in 2020.
We were very blessed and excited on 22 January 2017 when we moved the Primary School classes out of facilities in the church building and into our first dedicated school building twelve brand new classrooms in a double storey facility. In these first 5 short years we have achieved so much, and we give God all the glory.
The Preschool is the right place for your little one to be! This is where they first encounter formal education and they create social relationships. Our classes are structured for learning which we believe happens through play.
Each of our Preschool classes have between sixteen and eighteen learners and are taught by qualified ECD practitioners who are aided by an assistant teacher.
The classes are named according to a number of Winnie the Pooh characters:
Tiggers (2 - 3 years old)
Tiggers are bouncy and love to play. Learners in these classes learn in a fun, interactive way, using their whole bodies.
Rabbits (3 - 4 years old)
Rabbits are known for their hard work, dedication and love to be at school.
Winnies (4 turning 5 years old)
Winnies are very cheerful and willing to help others.
Our playgrounds are filled with apparatus specifically designed to enhance the learners gross-motor skills, strengthen their little bodies and encourage problem solving, all while having fun. These are child-friendly environments fitted with AstroTurf, so that you can rest assured in the knowledge that your child will be in a safe and clean environment.
Our Fantasy Playroom opens up a whole new world of learning through play. It is fitted with toys that inspire the learners creative thinking skills and enables them to relate to the world surrounding them. When playing in this room, the learner can escape from reality and choose to be whoever they want to be: a mechanic, doctor, farmer or even a mother etc.
We intend that our curriculum should instil in our learners these qualities: responsibility, independence and a sense that learning can excite and invigorate throughout life. In order to achieve this, at ECA we teach the CAPS curriculum as set out by the GDE in an IEB manner. In other words, while teaching all the elements of the CAPS curriculum as stipulated, we continually encourage the learners to think for themselves, drawing out knowledge from within the learners, instead of just endlessly presenting the learners with facts.
English is offered as the Home Language and Afrikaans as the First Additional Language and Setswana as the Second Additional Language.
