St Benedicts School is located in Bedfordview. St Benedict's is a Catholic school that provides a strong values-based education. The attitudes and values we teach may be "old-fashioned or conservative" for some and we are not always "politically-correct" because we do not yield to the pressures of social trends.
As a Catholic school we are founded on a Christian anthropology, imbued with a Catholic worldview and inspired by a supernatural vision. We are animated by communion and community and place a high regard on collaboration and the building of rich, meaningful personal relationships. As we encourage our boys to search for wisdom and truth, we encourage them to maintain a positive view of life.
Christian formation through the fostering of gospel values is one of our fundamental purposes. We achieve this by providing our boys with a safe and nurturing emotional and spiritual environment. We align our vision through a number of school specific frameworks and programmes, including Habits of Heart and Mind and the Beatitudes.
Few schools can compare with St Benedict's and the school's consistently outstanding matric results over many years. With its integrated approach towards academics, religion, sport and culture, the College has become increasingly well known for the exceptional calibre of its pupils - not only for their academic and sporting achievements but also for their integrity, dedication and leadership.
St Benedict's follows the S.A. National Curriculum from Reception in Grade R through to Matriculation. In Grade12, boys write the National Senior Certificate Examination of the Independent Examinations Board. Dramatic Arts and Music complement the school's traditional focus on Mathematics, Science and Information Technology. A large percentage of our matriculants also write final examinations in Advance Programme Maths and English.
In Mathematics, Science and Information Technology our boys generally excel - and as a result achieve brilliant academic results in the IEB matriculation examinations. There has been no failure at the matriculation level since 1974, the University Entrance pass rate of our boys is generally of the order of 95% and each year our boys feature on the IEB Commendable and Outstanding Achievers' Lists!
Computational Thinking, Project Based Learning and Science Technology Engineering and Maths (STEM) are being integrated into the Grade 8 and Grade 9 curriculum, critical skills to be successful in the 21st century workforce. Our teachers are involved with constant research and development into improving teaching and learning.
