Lettie Fouché Special School Pre-School is located in Bloemfontein. Lettie Fouche School is a school for mentally handicapped learners with approximately 270 learners and we work with multiple disabilities / syndromes. Lettie Fouche School consists of 6 different phases. We follow an extensive curriculum and assistance policy statement that specifically addresses each learner's need and therefore the learners are not sorted into grades, but into groups according to age.

The methodology of teaching we follow is an integrated, differentiated and individualistic teaching approach. There is continuous assessment, but the reproduction of knowledge, skills and values ??is handled in a more practical and concrete way.

At the age of fourteen, the girls and boys are exposed to the following programs, viz. cooking, sewing, metalworking, woodworking, academic and computer skills.

Soon we will be able to offer accredited modules from SETAs to send learners with formal certificates into the world of work.

Then we also have an enrichment year for the learners who show potential for further education after leaving school age. The following programs are presented in a very practical way, viz. car wash, entrepreneurship, sewing, consumer studies, clerical work, class assistants, gardeners, security work, computer skills, nail care, hair washing training, etc.

The school has 4 classes for learners with autism. They are approached in a visual, sensory way with a lot of love, structure and routine.

We constantly strive to create a “safe haven” for each and every one of the children in the school, within each learner's unique needs / abilities.
